The Mamertino Rosso “Giulio Cesare” from the Cambria winery is an elegant and intense Sicilian red, made with Nero d’Avola and Nocera. It is a wine that boasts ancient origins and a fascinating history. The name of the label is a tribute to Julius Caesar, who is said to have offered the Mamertino wine during the celebrations for his third consulship. Today it is still produced with the indigenous grapes of the territory and represents an excellence of the small area of northeastern Sicily overlooking the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands.
The Mamertino Rosso “Giulio Cesare” wine is made from the grapes of the Tenuta di Masseria of the Cambria winery. The vineyards are located in the wonderful territory of Furnari, historically known as one of the most suitable areas in the region for its splendid exposures and medium-textured soils, with a significant presence of limestone. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of about 160 meters above sea level and are trained in a spurred cordon system, with a density of 4000 vines per hectare and a yield of less than 60 quintals/ha. The manual harvest takes place around mid-September and after a cold maceration of 24 hours at 12°C, fermentation in steel with maceration on the skins follows. The wine rests for 14 months in French oak barrels of various sizes, from 225 to 3000 liters, and completes the aging with 6 months in bottle.
The Rosso Mamertino “Giulio Cesare”, produced by the Sicilian winery Cambria, is a classic version of this great wine, which aims to pay homage to the noble traditions of this small but renowned territory with its excellence. In the glass, it presents an intense red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet expresses aromas of dark berry fruits, ripe red fruit, notes of vanilla and cocoa, hints of oriental spices, scents of medicinal herbs, and balsamic nuances. On the palate, it has a good body, with a warm, rich, and deep sip, smooth tannins, and a harmonious finish, with good freshness.
